Trying to find a simple DVB watching program :
* VLC can't handle channels.conf, can read a custom m3u playlist.
* mythtv is too big and messy.
* gnome-mplayer crashes when I choose watch TV from the menu.
* totem / gstreamer stutters and plays choppy video.
* me-TV ; the gui is unresponsive while watching and there is no use of EPG here.
* ghdtv looks promising didn't know about it, didn't try it.
* xine yuck.
* mplayer is clumsy.
Opensource .. scratch your itch.
I made this simple GUI to ease my usage of mplayer for watching DVB-S. All it does is parse your already working channels.conf from ~/mplayer/ and presents you with a list of channel names. Choose a channel and it will launch mplayer with it, and hide itself. When you exit mplayer it shows the list again.
Take it or leave it. Released into the public domain for now.
